A TACO LOVER'S STORY

Background

"Who has the best Tacos and Burritos in San Jose?"

"¿Quién tiene los mejores tacos y burritos en San José?🔥"

Above was a phrase repeated on an almost weekly basis by Silicon Valley engineer Frank Araujo. A native of Mexico, Mr. Araujo came to the US at age 14, seeking opportunity. Through hard work and plenty of divine blessings, he built the life of his dreams – but one thing was missing. His new hometown just couldn’t deliver the authentic Mexican flavors he craved. It all started with a techie’s craving for tacos. Determined to engineer a delicious solution, Mr. Araujo gathered the best taqueros and perfected authentic recipes to bring San Jose’s best tacos and burritos to life. In 2005, he launched the El Paisa mobile kitchen, a 28-foot glass-fronted taco trailer that quickly became a local sensation. Lines stretched down the block for hand-made tortillas and grilled carne asada. As demand grew, one trailer became four. By 2008, Araujo’s opened its first restaurant at 3070 Senter Rd, San Jose, turning into a late-night hotspot and one of the Bay Area’s top taquerias. Another location followed in 2012 at the iconic King and Story intersection — the heart of Latin culture in the South Bay. In 2018, Araujo’s Mexican Grill went digital, joining DoorDash, GrubHub, and UberEats to deliver authentic Mexican street food across San Jose — from Almaden to Willow Glen. By 2019, Araujo’s became one of DoorDash’s most popular independent restaurants and joined its National Restaurant Advisory Committee. Adapting to new dining trends, Araujo’s expanded again in 2021 with a flagship restaurant at 1501 Berryessa Rd, North San Jose. Featuring modern design and massive HD screens, this location sets the standard for Araujo’s future — while staying true to its taco truck roots, serving authentic Mexican flavors made from scratch with the freshest ingredients.
